"Faith" Part one of two

FAITH -

Heb 11:1-2 Now faith is the SUBSTANCE of things HOPED FOR, and the EVIDENCE of things not seen. For by it, the elders obtained a good report. (KJV)

SUBSTANCE -

Strong's # 5287 hupostasis (hoop-os'-tas-is); from a compound of 5259 and 2476; a setting under (support), i.e. (figuratively) concretely, essence, or abstractly assurance (objectively or subjectively):

EVIDENCE -

Strong's # 1650 elegchos (el'-eng-khos); from 1651; proof, conviction:

Strong's # 1651 elegcho (el-eng'-kho); of uncertain affinity; to confute, admonish:

HOPED FOR -

Strong's # 1679 elpizo (el-pid'-zo); from 1680; to expect or confide:

Strong's # 1680 elpis (el-pece'); from a primary elpo (to anticipate, usually with pleasure); expectation (abstractly or concretely) or confidence:

- Faith gives the believer UNDERSTANDING about how GOD sometimes operates. Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. (KJV)

- The unbeliever hasn't a clue and cannot understand. 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (KJV)

- The Carnally minded cannot grasp faith.

1Co 3:1-3 1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

- But Jesus said if any will do GOD'S will he'll understand.

Jn 7:17 "If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. (NKJ)

- Faith is having Personal Confidence in GOD. Confidence that Faith will save us. That the faith is that which will Serve GOD. Also it will Sanctify and Sustain us always.

- Not everyone has this faith.

2Th 3:2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith. (NKJ)

- It is something that GOD gives to every man.

Ro 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

- But everyone does not use it.

- Faith is sometimes mentioned as a Creed or Doctrinal announcement.

Lu 18:8 "I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"

Ro 1:5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name,

1Cor 16:13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.

2Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?-- unless indeed you are disqualified.

Col 1:23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. (NKJ)

Col 2:7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Tit 1:13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, (NKJ)

Jude 1:3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. (NKJ)

- Faithfulness is a Fruit of the Spirit. It is that which comes out of faith.

Gal 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

- It could a Title for Jesus.

Gal 3:23-25 23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.

24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Rev 3:14 "And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, `These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: (NKJ)

Rev 19:11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. (NKJ)

- Just how important is Faith?

2Pet 1:1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: (NKJ)

- PRECIOUS

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (NKJ)

- CANNOT PLEASE GOD WITHOUT IT.

Jn 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

- MUST HAVE IT TO BE SAVED.

Jn 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (KJV)

Jn 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

- JUST LIVE BY FAITH. Hab 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. (KJV)

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (KJV)

Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. (KJV)

- We made one act of faith at the beginning of our Christian life and have had many starting points since then.

FAITH IN RELATION TO -

- Confessing Jesus

Mt 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

Ro 10:9-13 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (KJV)

- To Baptism

Mk 16:15-16 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (KJV)

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

- To Repentance

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (KJV)

1Th 1:9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; (KJV)

Acts 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. (KJV)

- To Restitution with GOD

1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Ro 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Ro 5:6-10 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (KJV)

- To Works

Jn 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; Jas 2:17-18 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. (KJV)

Jas 2:24-26 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (KJV)

- Faith is to be exercised Daily.

Jn 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (KJV)

2Pet 1:10-11 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (KJV)

1Jn 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. (KJV)
